The Countdown Begins: COHDRL Youth Rugby 2024 Season Unveiled

The rugby fields of Hull and its surrounding areas are set to come alive with the arrival of the COHDRL Youth Rugby 2024 season.

With teams gearing up for pre-season camps, anticipation is building for an action-packed season featuring a multitude of talented squads across various age groups.

Here is a summary of all of the teams involved and the rules and regulations within each age group ahead of the coming season:

Under 11s

11-a-side , 25 minutes each way, with a size 4 ball and a pitch measuring 80m x 50m, sets the stage for skilful encounters. The absence of a league table places emphasis on development, with teams encouraged to focus on fair play and considerate competition.

  • West Hull Ocelots

Overview of the Under 11s 2024 structure:

  • Goal kicks to be taken no wider then 10m wider than the goalpost.

  • Not guaranteed to play a team home and away, may play the same team either at home twice or away twice in a season as we use these games to help with the referee allocations. By season end we will try to ensure you have played the same amount of home and away games in total.

  • A team is able to register as many players as they wish, once they reach 22 players they will be unable to register by transferring players from other clubs. However, they will still be able to register as many Talent Transfer players(new players to the game) as they wish.

Under 12s

As the players progress to the Under 12s division, the game intensifies with 13 versus 13 matchups, played on a full-size pitch for 25 minutes each way. After a round of initial fixtures, teams split into the top 4 Championship and bottom 7 Shield. Points difference doesn't factor into the league table, promoting a balanced and considerate approach to the game.

Overview of the Under 12s 2024 structure:

  • Play each other once then split into top 4 Championship & bottom 7 Shield.

  • The league tables reset after the split. 

  • Championship teams play each other home and away after the split and Shield teams teams play each other once more after the split. The top 2 in the Championship and shield play a Grand Final to decide the winners for the season. *Subject to change*

  • Points difference do not count in the league table

  • Matches v Goole are non-competitive and the result does not affect the League table. Please bear this in mind if their team is not as strong as yours.

Under 13s

The Under 13s category brings longer matches of 30 minutes each way, played with a size 4 ball. After facing each other once, teams split into the top 4 Championship and bottom 6 Shield groups. The pursuit of excellence is paramount, with the top 2 teams in each group advancing to a Grand Final showdown!

Under 13s teams include:

  • Beverley Braves

  • East Hull

  • Holderness Vikings

  • Hull Dockers

  • Hull Wyke

  • Lambwath

  • Myton Greens

  • Myton Reds

  • Skirlaugh

  • West Hull Leopards

Overview of the Under 13s 2024 structure:

  • Play each other once then split into top 4 (Championship) and bottom 6 (Shield).

  • Championship  teams play each other home and away after the split, Shield teams play each other once more. 

  • The top 2 play a GF in the Championship and Shield to decide the winners for the season. *SUBJECT TO CHANGE*

  • Points difference do not count in the league table

  • A team is able to register as many players as they wish, once they reach 22 players they will be unable to register by transferring players from other clubs. However, they will still be able to register as many Talent Transfer players (new players to the game) as they wish

Under 14s / Under 15s

In the Under 14s /Under 15s category, teams face-off once before splitting into the Top 5 Championship and Bottom 6 Shield. The league tables reset after the split, leading to thrilling rematches.

Teams competing in Under 14s/Under 15s include:

  • Cottingham

  • Holderness Vikings

  • Hull Wyke

  • Cottingham (U14)

  • East Hull

  • Holderness Vikings

  • Hull Dockers

  • Hull Wyke

  • Myton Warriors

  • Skirlaugh

  • West Hull Lions

Overview of the Under 14s/15s 2024 structure:

  • Play each other once, split into top 5, Championship and bottom 6 , Shield .

  • The league tables reset after the split. Both the Championship and Shield teams play each other once more after the split.

  • The top 2 in the Championship and shield play a GF to decide the winners for the season. *Subject to change*

  • A team is able to register as many players as they wish, once they reach 22 players they will be unable to register by transfer players from other clubs. However, they will still be able to register as many Talent Transfer players (new players to the game) as they wish

  • Cup competition -  teams play at their own age group, not mixed, we will have an u14s cup and an u15s cup comp for teams to enter

  • Points difference do not count in the league table

  • Any player playing up a year for an u14 side can not play against an u15 team.

Under 15s / Under 16s

With extended match times of 35 minutes each way, the Under 15/16s category brings a higher level of competition. After facing each other once, teams split into top 6 Championship and bottom 6 Shield. The league tables reset for a final showdown, determining the season's champions.

Under 15/16s teams include:

  • Cottingham U16

  • East Hull U16

  • Myton Green U16

  • Skirlaugh U16

  • West Hull Jaguars U16

  • Myton Red U16

  • Beverley Braves U15

  • East Hull U15

  • Skirlaugh Knights U15

  • Skirlaugh Storm U15

  • West Hull Raiders U15

  • West Hull Warriors U15

  • Sherwood Wolfhunt Development U16

Overview of the Under 15s/16s 2024 structure:

  • A team is able to register as many players as they wish, once they reach 22 players they will be unable to register by transferring players from other clubs. However, they will still be able to register as many Talent Transfer players (new players to Rugby League) as they wish

  • Cup competition - Teams play at their own age group, not mixed, so we have an u16s cup and a separate u15s cup.

  • Points difference do not count in the league table

  • Any player playing up a year for an u15 side cannot play against an u16s team.

Under 18s

The Under 18s division promises intense battles with 40 minutes each way and teams facing each other three times. The top 4 teams engage in playoffs, leading to a grand final spectacle. The season also features at least three 7-a-side competitions, showcasing the diversity and vibrancy of youth rugby in the region.

Under 18s teams include:

  • East Hull

  • Hull Wyke

  • Skirlaugh

  • West Hull

  • Sherwood Wolfhunt Development (TBC)

Overview of the Under Under 18s 2024 structure:

  • Top 4 Play off: 1st v 2nd - winner through to the Grand final 3rd v 4th - loser out, winner plays loser of 1 v 2, winner of this game goes through to the Grand Final.

  • At least three x 7 a side comps per year - invite other clubs to enter. If they have enough u18s, also invite out of town teams if they have a free weekend and union team

  • Look to pick an end of season Hull select team to play a West Yorkshire / Castleford select team if all teams complete the season.
